Fabio Leonardi is a lawyer, writer and teacher based in Washington, DC, as well as an expert in tax crime, anti-corruption, money laundering, cybercrime, financial fraud and government investigations. He is currently an Adjunct Professor of Law at Georgetown University Law Center and also serves as national Co-Chair of the Criminal Justice Committee of the American Bar Association, Young Lawyers Division.
His work has appeared in numerous national and international publications and he has been widely quoted in print and online outlets. Many of his cases have involved intense media and public scrutiny and have been reported by The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Financial Times, Forbes, TIME, ESPN, Bloomberg, Miami Herald, Daily Mail, The Guardian, The Economist and The Moscow Times, among others.
He also maintains an active pro bono criminal defense practice, representing indigent criminal defendants as defense counsel with the Office of the Federal Public Defender for the Eastern District of Virginia as well as the Office of the Public Defender for the State of Maryland.
Early in his career, Mr. Leonardi served in regulatory enforcement at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, where he investigated technology companies and advised on a major SEC accounting fraud enforcement action that ultimately led to a $100 million settlement. He is a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center, George Washington University Law School and the University of Padua (Italy).
